Junkies, as you know Dark Øverlord Media teamed up with BackMyBook.com to bring you the Back ANCESTOR contest. [img_assist|nid=4030|title=|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=160|height=250]

Today we have a winnah! "fmslife," who goes by Jessica in the real world, is the new lucky owner of the sweet nook e-reader.  It's signed (defaced) by me, and I'll be recording a personalized mp3 message for Jessica, and DØM will be providing a bunch of short story PDFs, loaded up on her new nook.  The second and third place winners win personalized copies of ANCESTOR in hardcover.  All three may or may not receive assorted additional swag from the Office of Døøm. (Very likely to include Play Doh.)

First, the stats:

  • Junkies generated a whopping 14622 Views (clicks from the links they placed)
  • 147 Junkies signed up at BackMyBook as Backers.

The Top 3 Backers:

  1. fmslife with 4041 pts (started: Jul 21, 2010)
  2. Joseph Aldred 1956 pts (started: Jul 16, 2010)
  3. necol66 1200 pts (started: Jul 16, 2010)

Pretty sweet, right? It gets better.  Here's why there ain't no Junkies like Sigler Junkies:

The winner, Jessica, was competing because she suffers from Fibromyalgia, and thought the lightweight nook would help her keep up her lifelong reading habit. She posted about the contest on her Fibromyalgia awareness blog, and set off to win. (I spoke with her to make sure she cool with me mentioning her here.)

When she joined the contest, Joseph Aldred had been hammering away at it for a week, and was in the lead with about 1500 points.  When he read her post, he says, "Knowing how much I bitch about the "me" culture we live in, I posted to my friends and sent out emails to not click for me, and if anything, help her.  For me the nook would be a cool gadget, but is something so much more for her.  It would help her be able to do something that she loves at a time that is increasingly more difficult to have any semblance of normality.  I am extremely, EXTREMELY happy that she won."

Jessica backed ANCESTOR, and Joseph backed Jessica's play.  That is some kind of class, and that's how it's done. Good man.

In fact, we think it's so cool that Joseph backed Jessica's play, we're going to back Joseph's play:  Back My Book and Dark Øverlord Media will also send Joseph a nook e-reader, all pimped out and Sligerized too!

The Nook

I know I posted something earlier, but I had forgotten to sign in first.  So let me reiterate.  Thank you Scott (and A) for your generosity.  I am still speechless and really appreciate this.

Thanks a billion.

Well done to the Nook winners!

I couldn't understand how Jessica managed to gain all those points, then A told explained in an e-mail. Ah, it made sense and if I'd known then I would have set my posts etc up to back her. But, as it happens, she was way out if front anyway!

I posted on this site, offering all my accumulated crack hits to someone who helped me... but to no avail.

Oh well, congratulations to the winners and well done for a great idea to gain the points and promote Ancestor.

I'm fmslife

Hello! I'm "fmslife". This contest was so exciting and fun for me, even before Joe tracked me down like a stalker. ;)

I never expected Joe to find me, read about me, and then back me in the contest. It really does show that there are still people of quality character in this world. And by awarding him a Nook, as well, Scott and A have shown they are of the same quality, as well.

Being disabled and pissed off at the world, this really has started to change my view of it. I can't thank Joe, Scott, and A enough.

I also owe a ton of thanks to all my friends on Tumblr, Facebook, followers of my blog, and my 6000+ member support group (they didn't all click, but a vast majority did). This is the kind of contest you can't win without a huge backing and I really never thought I'd win. But the points really started racking up after turning to the support group I created. The outcome has been so astounding.

I will still be singing Scott's praises, backing his books, and sharing links to his podcasts on my Tumblr blog (jessiebee.tumblr.com) for a long time.

Again, a special thank you to Joe, who I now interact with on an almost daily basis and consider a friend, and to Scott and A for their generosity.

I heard about the contest too late to be able to enter it. So jealous!  I've been waiting to get any Sigler books until I pick up an e-reader because I just have no book space left anymore, and since Ancestor is in hard-cover only it would take up even MORE space. Do us all proud and fill up your nook with Sigler goodness!

Hi Jessibee

I've sent you a private message with my good wishes and I hope you become a regular Junkie on this site.

Best wishes from Neil

To both you and Joe!

This contest couldn't have ended any happier! Warms the heart and makes me smile to be part of this group. Rock on.
