HIlarious!

I don't have netflix now but have been considering getting a subscription for awhile.  If anything their "price increase" has made me more likely to do so since I can choose streaming only, dvd only, or both.  I seriously don't see the problem, you don't want it...don't buy it.

I agree

with Steffiebaby. I've wanted a separated streaming-only price structure for a while. I can still retain my current pricing and i only need to drop 1 disc. I currently have 3-discs out at a time, but for cryin' out loud, those discs sit unwatched for MONTHS. So drop me down to 2 and charge me the same. No sweat off my nose. Maybe for the extra 4 bucks of their price increase, I'll drop to 2 discs and add blu-ray. It comes out to the same cost as the price increase, but with more utility for me (i get blu-ray discs).

A great laugh!

I'm with John.  I get only one DVD at a time and it sometimes takes me four or five months to watch it!  I work ~80 - 90 hours a week between two jobs and then there's Maeve and all her activities and sports and friends and whatnot.  I just plain don't have time to sit and watch a movie.  I've very much been enjoying finding shows on the Watch Instantly through my Wii, and that I can mostly watch while working at home.

I still haven't fully decided whether to stick with DVD's and streaming or just go with streaming.  It's still not that much money for something I can do sitting on my ass at home!

I would see a 60% increase in membership dues

but wouldn't see a single improved feature because of it.  I'm keeping the streaming option going, but they can kiss my ass for getting DVDs in the mail.

... I can't see the original post - dum phone

No one has been able to sell me on paid TV ... its really just throwing your money away if you dont use it ... so I don't have cable or satellite ... Big screen doesn't work as a traditional TV without it ... The TV I do watch I can stream for free ... Movies I get from the library for free or Redbox for a dollar ... that said ... I don't watch much TV ... I can happily go weeks without turning it on ... I'd say my TV and movie rental budget is $5 a month tops. I think they are talking about changing home Internet to be like the new cellphone plans ... Paying more for data based on usage ... Luckily I'm grandfathered in with the iPhone cuz even tho I work from home I'm at their highest level! I hope my DSL plan is grandfathered in when/if that change over occurs! Streamers beware LOL

I hear that my name will be mentioned in Nocturnal! Pre-order a copy TODAY!

One of my big problems with TV is variety

Or lack thereof.

I lived without TV for years.  And yet every time I go visit my parents house the exact same things are on TV.  They pay too much per month (I'm not really sure how much, but being Time Warner Cable I'm pretty sure it's not cheap) for 'x' number of channels and there is never anything on that I haven't seen a million times before.  One thing I love about Netflix is being able to watch a wide variety of TV/Movies whenever you feel like it - something cable doesn't seem to offer.

We do now have TV at home, I caved, and it seems to only show Nickelodeon and Disney.  All right, well that's all that gets watched on it anyway.  8 months of having Verizon in the house and I've never watched more than two SU basketball games and the Superbowl.  But, that's what I really got for in the end - my daughter.  And my dad since he takes care of her while I watch.  As long as Maeve doesn't get past the hour a day she's allowed I'm okay with the expense.  I don't think you should be too concerned about what other people think of you, but I do understand wanting to fit in.  And I know all too soon we'll get those "Go home and watch..." assignments from school.

Ever since Netflix raised their rates ....

I know, right?

I figured the entire cast of Seinfeld would have starved to death the first couple of years after the show ran it's course.

But now - they dropped a bunch of titles from Instant View!

I call foul! Shennanigans! I'm fine with the price increase, whatever -- but now they have greatly reduced the number of TV shows/movies you can view instantly. this sucks.... looking into other options for online streaming. Amazon Prime has some, but I just don't know what to do. Oh, the humanity!

Amazon prime has 2-day free shipping

I subscribe to amazon prime and one of the basic benefits is you get 2 day shipping for free. That means if you order at least 3-4 times a year, that it'll basically pay for itself. On top of that you of course get the streaming access and a higher cloud bank I think. It's $80 a year, but I find, well worth it just for the 2-day shipping alone. Hope this helps.

I also have netflix and mostly I find that when they drop titles a whole slew of new ones are added. I'll say the biggest complaint I've heard comes from people who expect certain parts of the library to be bigger and complain about having titles like Star Trek (all of the series, some of the movie, and the NEW movie). I'm not sure what kind of moviee/tv shows you watch, but it could just be that for the moment, those contracts have expired and new ones are added, just not in the categories you watch.

Yes, Amazon Prime is a good companion

to Netflix instant streaming... there's still a bunch of stuff not available (without an extra fee) on either Netflix or Amazon Prime. Like the Penn & Teller Bullshit episodes -- they used to be on Netflix streaming. Now it's order the DVD or pay $1.99/episode. Doh!

I think it's best to play the waiting game

at some point it will make the most economical sense to both netflix and all movie studios to allow streaming of all of their merchandise.

I've read many reports that say it's netflix's goal to have their entire library streaming and phase out the physical DVDs, but that's obviously a work in progress.  Some studios aren't too keen on allowing their product to stream.

I've been eye-balling this

I tend to purchase froma mazon 2 to 3 times a year in bunches over $25 to save on shipping; if all shipping becomes free, this might be something work picking up.

Something happened just recently

Netflix went over a certain # of subscribers and that triggered some clause at Sony that let them pull a bunch of things from Instant Streaming. Grrrr! Bait and Switch! I call shenanagans, somebody get my broom.

I think that its still the

I think that its still the fact that while they are stepping up to the plate and realizing that streaming and digital distribution is the way of the future they will ease off.

Either that or they are will try to do it themselves like Gamestop is doing.

Competition is good but people was things simple and coming from one souce like netflix is simple...

Is Netflix's loss of Starz the End as We Know It?

Say goodbye to about 1,000 movies, because Starz is leaving. "Starz Entertainment has ended contract renewal negotiations with Netflix," Starz said in a statement. "When the agreement expires on February 28, 2012, Starz will cease to distribute its content on the Netflix streaming platform." No ifs, ands or butts. The decision means popular movies like Toy Story 3 will vanish from Netflix when Starz's contract is up early next year…
