FridayFix!The FDO™ and I were amazed with the entries, both quantity and quality, but the judges have spoken! The winner of the ANCESTOR user-generated video contest is Adrian Picardi's vision of the "Where is Sara?" script (click here to read the script in PDF form).Three of the four judges voted for this one, so it's a clear-cut choice.

The FDO™ and I thank you all for entering. This was the coolest contest we have ever done, and it was amazing to see the vision and interpretations of so many Junkies. We'll be doing this again sometime in the future.

And as a personal comment to Adrian, the snakeskin-jacket Magnus was sweeeeeeet. Great performances, and killer lighting.

A Magnus I like...

Well, I have to agree with Mr Sigler. This is one Magnus I like.

The video is well done and could be my favourite.

Magnus in this video has so many traits borrowed from other characters - the most obvious is Michael Madsen in Reservoir Dogs but a nod must go to the late great Dennis Hopper. The nuances and quirks of this snakeskin jacketed greaseball has many hints of Hopper!

An excellent video and a front-runner.

Well done!

Great interpretation of the characters

But there is one sopt that puts it over-the-top for me. The part where Magnus looks at his knife an says "I know you" to it... that's a difficult bit to pull off without it sounding cheesy or contrived, and these guys pretty near nailed it. Got closer than anyone else, anyway. I wish I could have entered the contest because I had a baller idea for this script. Turn it on it's head by having the actors be women, and at that "I know you" line, have Mag drag the blade across his (her) arm with an orgasmic shudder. That would lend creedence to Clayton's following line about Mag being crazy. One other little addition would be when Mag goes to cut off the finger, have the character stop beside Clayton, look over at a workbench that has some scattered tools on it, including a pair of chickes scissors, then exchange the knife for the scissors & do the cutting with those. Just a little homage to Scary Perry Dawsey.

Just awesome!

The unique take immediately grabbed my attention.  Fantastic acting, unique casting and a wonderful twisted sick Sigler ending.  Excellent work.  I wish this was a whole movie - I wanted more!

Oh holy crap, me too!

I would love to see Adrian do more scenes from Ancestor in this style. Or perhaps a scene from Nocturnal? I think Adrian could do justice to that story. Hey, maybe Scott can do a short story based on this interpretation of his characters.

Pronunciation?

Is it pronounced the same as sarah? I've been reading it as sarr- ra

Yh

Nocturnal would look awesome in that style, maybe an alleyway shot with that kind of lighting would be friggin awesome

Congrats

Strange that somone who already has a professional studio would enter an amateur video contest though. Seems a little unfair.

On Edited

Have to disagree

I intentionally set up the contest to cater to all levels and types of production. That's why we encouraged machinma, and even had a script that catered to just computer graphics (Jian's dream). Nowhere did the contest say "amateur." It was open to any and all filmmakers.

Congratulations

It was fantastically done - I#m sure we'll see more from this guy in the future.
