Stack o' podcast novelsI saw a cool post at The Legion of Lethargic Super Geeks blog that focused on JC Hutchins and I, but also talked about our contemporaries in the podcast fiction space. The post is familiar info to most of you Junkies, but what got me was the picture at left.

All of those books were free podcast novels. Mur Lafferty, Matt Wallace, Matthew Wayne Selznick, Hutchins and Sigler. And the picture doesn't include books by key figures like Phil Rossi, Pippa Ballantine, Tee Morris and more. And, the picture doesn't include THE ROOKIE

My point? All of the authors at left and the ones I mentioned above were pre-tested in the marketplace. We gave shit away, for free, then measured audience interest, and if that interest was high enough, we published a print book. This is the wave of the future, Dear Reader, a land where you have all the power to decide what gets made and what does not. Soak it up -- you are the boss of bosses.

Ummm.....

Actually, 7th Son: Decent is in the pic.  It's right under Ancestor.

I thought it was so impressive...

I posted a comment on the site! Truly the publishing industry paradigm shift that has been a long time coming. It must be incredible to ride the crest of that wave. Congratulations to all of the great trailblazers. I’ve been a fan of most of these authors for years already and I never cease to be amazed. Keep up the great work!

7th son

was good, but didn't have the suspense of a sigler novel in it.

we knew who everyone was and where they were going...

7th Son is shite

I couldn't agree more. 7th Son is absolutely predictable. There's not an suspenseful moment in those pages.

Whoever wrote that book is a hack. How does this crap get published?

On Edited

Har! and Double Har!

So sayeth the cliffhangering bastard...  The difference between the two is Hutch will surprise us, Sigler will surprise and scare the crap out of us.  Ain't no groom walk in 7th son....  Besides, if they didn't publish 7th son, what would we use for toilet paper?

Ohhh, SNAP!

Always a bummer to go negative on a book and have the author show up and comment back. Say what you will about the Baby-Faced Bastard™, but Hutchinsssss is always watching.

7th Son

Honestly, i enjoyed personal effects and 7th son. Now, i know it may seem the Siglerrific thing to do, but i'm of the opinion that you can actually enjoy two authors, different authors, at the same time. Also, gotta admit, Personal Effects got my heart pumping like any horror novel.

Wow, Blasphemy.

I may have just blindly blasphemed in a way i haven't since asking if the jewish jesus was an octopus. (Okay, i was six and figured that if a dude fit on the cross, then that must be what the star of david was for too, and obviously no person's fittin' on there.) But back then i was Six, and it made sense. Whoopsie.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you

I have a 180 degree option on everything you stated above. I cant believe it, Hutchins telling a fib. Maybe theres a little tendency for darkness in all that good after all.....  ;)

Blasphemy, Blaspheyou, Blasphe-everybody in the room

(The subject line is my favorite Eddie Izzard quote.)

I'm currently listening to 7th Son: Descent and I like it. I started listening to Hutchinsss with Personal Effects: Sword Of Blood and I received Dark Arts for Christmas. I loved Hutchins' grandma voice in Sword Of Blood.

Sadly, I did not receive The Rookie for Christmas, so I'm hoping to receive it as an anniversary present.

Between us, the wife and I have the original version of Ancestor, 7th Son: Descent, and Personal Effects in print. Ancestor 2.0 is on pre-order and I'm buying Contagious on my next trip to Powell's.

Since I don't have enough moola to buy every podcast book on the planet, I give back by recommending podcast novels in my sci-fi zine.

Listening to other podcasts doesn't make me a bad fan. Like any good Junkie, I'll always come back to get my fix.

Giving shit away for free

Listening to the FDO episode of Dead Robot's Society was like taking a marketing class.

Being a Junkie has taught me that giving shit away for free is a damn good idea. I'm starting a company to help filmmakers do the same thing.

I'm not looking for a revolution in the film industry. I just want to keep young filmmakers from signing away their distribution rights.
