If you know the name David Moody, it's either because you've read his kick-ass books or you saw me blog about his last book, HATER. I liked HATER a lot, and told ya so in that post, but as much as I liked it I just wasn't ready for the follow-up, DOG BLOOD.
While DOG BLOOD is the second in a series and continues the story, Moody's writing skill has increased ten-fold. I imagine he wrote most or all of HATER way back when he was learning how to do his thing, and penned DOG BLOOD many years after.
DOG BLOOD is one of the best apocalypse stories I have ever experienced. Better than anyone I've read, Moody captures the slow disintegration of our society entering a new dark age. He plays games with the speciation of mankind, and in projecting humanity's successor he pretty much nails what it is to be "human" right on the head. I got chills reading this book, because every word of it rang heavy with "yep, that's pretty much what would happen when the shit not only hits the fan, but clings to the blades and air-dries there."
I'm not going to tell you much of the story, because I really can't without spoiling it. So, I will tell you this, if you like my books, go buy HATER and DOG BLOOD and read them in succession. If you've already read HATER, DOG BLOOD is in your must-consume pile.
