THE ALL-PRO pre-orderYes, it's almost here. The third book in the GFL series, THE ALL-PRO, kicks off the pre-order frenzy on April 1, 2011, 9am Pacific, noon Eastern, 5pm GMT.

Listen up, Junkies: free eBook if you buy the hardcover. You heard me. Don't make me stop this car. We realize the publishing world is changing, and many of you love your Kindles and Nooks. We also know there's nothing like that shelf of hardcovers, of getting THE ALL-PRO lined up all pretty next to your other preciouses. So, best of both worlds -- pre-order the hardcover, and the day we publish (Sept. 6) you get the free eBook.

The Director of Døøm and I are pretty f-ing excited about this book. The third volume in the series somehow makes it more real, like we're going for all the marbles with a Galaxy-spanning adventure that could be a decade in the making. Y'all are here with us, every step of the way, every snap, every tackle, every pass.

Like the last two books, THE ALL-PRO is a limited-edition, signed and numbered hardcover novel wtih a sixteen-page color insert. The sooner your order gets in, the lower your number. It retails for $34.95.

With THE ROOKIE, we had such an unexpected rush that we crashed the server. Last year for THE STARTER, we switched servers, ramped up the process, and y'all hit it so hard we crashed it again (I was in Australia with the SwanCon gang at the time, which was kick-ass).

This year, we're working with the BackMyBook.com crew to handle the insane day-one demand, and they've taken it as a personal challenge to prevent crashing. (They keep talking about the gigantic servers they've got lined up for this one. Gigantic, I say.) As usual, Pulsar, our master programming ninja, will be on hand to help as well (and thank Jeebus for that).

We expect to sell around 1,000 books right off the bat, so buy early, buy often!

HOW BIG IS THE PRINT RUN?
That's the million-dollar question. As eBooks take over, A and I are considering printing enough copies of THE ALL-PRO to cover pre-orders, and that's it. We haven't made this decision yet, but keep it in mind -- if you want to wait until October to order your hardcover, you might be out of luck.

Not gigantic, GINORMOUS!

It's GINORMOUS, I tell ya!  So frickin' big that even Ki linemen give it a wide berth.  I'm talking about our servers of course.  Bring it on Junkies!  If our server goes down during the first 24 hours of THE ALL-PRO pre-order launch, I'll take whatever humiliation our FDO deigns, live and in person, at SiglerFest.

Yeah, that's not the GMT

According to the random time zone converter thingmy I found by using the Google Device on the Internet Machine, 9am Pacific converts to 4pm GMT. On that subject I'd just like to say one thing. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! At 4pm GMT I will be stepping off a train in Glasgow and therefore not have any internet access as I'll be on my way to Ireland. Shittles, I was hoping for a super low number this time, ah well as long as I get one :)

Almost....it's GMT 5PM

If you checked the time converter without putting in the date of April 1, that is why you came up with 4 PM. The US has changed their clocks for daylight savings time, but Europe hasn't. Europe will change their clocks on March 27.

I got a fever

And the only prescription is ALL-PRO.

Oh, I hope no one is confusing the 3rd book in the GFL series with this currently-available gem: http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Garth-Ennis/dp/1582408505/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1300405878&sr=8-1

Personally, I don't want to see the servers crash, cuz I wants me a LOOOW number. Although, I am curious to see the punishment that will befall the BackstreetMyBook Boys at SiglerFest...

I'M SO CONFLICTED!!!!

heheh...I <3 Garth Ennis

dude is touched in the head to be sure, but a hell of a writer.

If you've never read the comic series Preacher, you're doing yourself a great disservice.

Great Googly-Moogly!

He brazenly calls attention to himself, like a general leading the troops into battle, a target for the snipers. Brave, Tay, so brave.

I do have some Preacher comics

after your recommendation previously, I dug them out and read them (I had acquired them through a bulk purchase and had never read them). Unfortunately, I was grossly underwhelmed. Granted, the few issues I had were in the middle of some story arc, so I didn't have the full story, but they were very disappointing. You had, i believe, recommended the first arc in the series, and this was well past that. I think I need to pick up a trade paperback or something, if I can find one at a good price. From what i read, I wouldn't buy one at cover price.

I was unaware he was the one who wrote The Pro. I enjoyed it quite a bit, and not just for the super sluttiness. If he's responsible for those early Preacher issues, I'll have to re-evaluate my opinion!

Give Preacher a chance

Seriously, would you judge any Sigler story that you stepped into halfway?  Start at the beginning (Gone To Texas is the first trade) and work all the way through it.  It has some real punch, but it is a long-form work.  Give it some time. >>>[-Seth "The Hammer" Hanisek, Fullback, Woo Wallcrawlers]

Personally,

I have always been rather partial to the term, 'Bog-trotter.'

Strange, because I actually did enter the date.

I hope you're right and I'm wrong, because then I just might be able to order when it kicks off.

Yeah, what the floating head just said

Which issues did you read?  I'll admit, some side archs seemed a bit flat and would most likely seem even more if you just jumped in without any previous knowledge of the series, but when reading start to finish it's on par with the greatest works every in comics.

That is strange.

We figured it again just to be sure. The 5 PM should be right. I know that noon eastern is 6 PM here in Germany.

Just checked...

The issues I read were 30, 31, 35 and 50. I just didn't find them engaging at all. However, I will definitely give it another try. I just added Gone to Texas to my amazon wish list.

I'm curious if you guys looked at those issues i read and had any opinion on how they would be perceived by a newbie exploring the series. I'd love to hear what you think of those issues out of context, if that's possible.

Gotcha.

#30-#31: yeah, you’re in the middle of the Dixie Fried arc, so you have no clue who Arseface is and why he’s fucking hilarious , who these dumbass Les Enfents Du Sang are, and why you actually start to have differing opinions of Cassidy.

#35: Starr is one of the best characters in the series, and unless you get him from the beginning, you don’t really appreciate him.  Plus, you’re not scared shitless of the Saint of Killers yet.  His first appearance in the Gone to Texas arc shows he’s not a cat who fucks around.  Plus, shit starts to get real…and just wait until you see the Child.  Heheheh.

#50: Great issue.  It would make more sense if you had read the first appearance of Spaceman, but the Vietnam pieces about Jesse’s father are some of my favorite little side arcs in the whole series.  You find out where Jesse gets a lot of his traits from and when it comes to war stories, Ennis writes some amazing work.  You’ll appreciate this issue if you read the previous one much earlier in the series where you find out where Jesse gets his “Fuck Communism” lighter (I think it's the first issue in the Proud Americans arc).

And to answer your question, no, I did not pull this from memory; I did in fact google it.

Gone to Texas is a great start to the book, but I think my favorite arch in the entire series is the second one, Until the End of the World.
